This Kigurumi captures the essence of Evangelion Unit-01, also known as Evangerion Shogouki or Eva-01. It is the first non-prototype Evangelion, categorized as the "Test Type." Remarkably, it contains the soul of Shinji Ikari's mother, Yui Ikari, and is the only Eva to originate from Lilith. After experiencing a berserk state and consuming Zeruel's S² Engine, Unit-01 gained the unique ability to operate without an umbilical cable until the Mass Production Evangelions were developed.

Unit-01 was crafted at the Third Annex of Gehirn's Artificial Evolution Laboratory in Hakone between 2003 and 2004 and was declared functional in 2014. Piloted primarily by Shinji Ikari, with backups like Rei Ayanami or a Rei dummy plug, Unit-01 holds the best combat record among the Evangelions. Notably, it often exhibits autonomous behavior (known as "Berserk Mode"), acting independently of its pilot and without any discernible power source, driven by a complex consciousness tied to Yui Ikari’s spirit that seeks to protect its pilot while sometimes pursuing its own interests.
